Rumor has it that Google may be planning to get into the mobile phone market. The idea would be to take advantage of the Google advertising power on a small mobile device. It’s not clear how this would compete with other popular mobile devices like Blackberry, iPhone and Windows Mobile. It does seem certain that Google would attempt to embed additional mobile capabilities in a phone the competition doesn’t already have.
The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project was the brainchild of Nicholas Negroponte, and has the stated goal of providing children everywhere the opportunity to learn. It’s really not intended to be a project about technology, and while many of the laptops are donated the prospect of being able to get a laptop and donate one at the same time for only $200 is extremely appealing.
One of the reasons for the success of Microsoft Windows is the prevalence of applications for the platform. If you need a program to manipulate video, capture audio or even edit a document then you can expect to find a number of competitive options. This should make it possible to review any one of a number of options and make an informed decision about which product meets your needs.
